The
First Annual Home Tour was held on Sunday, March 30th, 2003.
Eight
homes were available, and around a hundred people enjoyed the event.
Participating homeowners were displaying various models ranging from
original design and decor to modified structures and innovative decorating
concepts. These lovely homes provided tour goers with stimulating ideas
for both interior and exterior design. The
homeowners have truly transformed and personalized their houses into
very unique and and inviting homes.
The
tour benefited the Volunteers of Esperanza Estates. Funds raised by
this group are used for maintaining and enhancing the neighborhood of
Esperanza Estates.
Homes
participating in the tour are described below, together with links to
photos:
Duncan
Home - Ensalmo
The Duncan home,
Model 321, features original collectors' art by, among others, Peter
Kitchel & Carol Summers. A previously screened porch has become an office
and seating area, overlooking the patio and rose garden. A mural headboard
has been painted by Mr. Duncan. This home has been modified by an addition
facing the front of the home to include a dining room. Special notice
should be paid to the colors used on baseboards and on bathroom walls.
Hicks
Home - Ensalmo
The exterior of
the Hicks home is reminiscent of an Italian villa. It also features
a very secluded office area with a separate entrance. Also featured
is a remodeled bath with a handicapped accessible shower. Furnishings
and rugs have been acquired through the owner's travels. Particularly
delightful are the three separate patio areas which complete a useable
and romantic floor plan.
Sheffield
Home - Circulo Napa
The Sheffield
home features an extension/expansion of a 182 model. The floor plan
leads to 3 separate living areas, and sitting areas in each bedroom.
The patio overlooks a sweeping Santa Rita Mountain view and features
a reflecting area pool, arbor and fountain. The living and dining area
floors are marble and the decor is subtle tones, leading to a feeling
that is light and airy. This home is over 2400 square feet and provides
excellent ideas of expansion and decor.
Teale
Home - Circulo Napa
In the Teale home,
a Model 300, the atrium has been removed to create a study/computer
area. Built-in shelves and cabinets fill the former closet area and
bi-fold doors allow access to the living room. Double recessed sliders
open to the hall and kitchen area and provide an open feeling. Saltillo
floor tile has been added in the central part of the house as well as
the front and back patios. Strong Mexican colors have been used in most
interior rooms selected and painted by David Wayne Floyd, an Interiors
Artist from Gualala and San Francisco, in collaboration with the owner.
Wallin
& Ramirez Home - Calle Excelso
The Wallin-Ramirez
home features extensive tile work and incorporates eclectic decor, including
kilm rugs, antique Turkish rain bags to pieces collected in the southwest
and Costa Rica. This home's atrium features 4 skylights and walls that
have been finished in an 8-glaze process. The atrium displays unique
art, rugs and jewelry pieces. The kitchen has been remodeled and incorporates
colors and tiles for a southwestern look. Attention should be given
to the tile work around mirrors and a custom made closet in the guest
room. This home is an example of "How-to" projects that the owners are
willing to share.
Blum
Home - Calle Excelso
The Blum home
features a stunning palette of color choices and new kitchen counters
and cabinets. This 255 model has an expanded former back patio that
is being utilized as a den. Also featured is a wet bar and a colorful
beehive fireplace. The back patio, adjacent to the den, has been enclosed
and is a wonderful space for entertaining. This home is a one of a kind.
Struble
Home - Circulo del Norte
The Struble home
features a spacious floor plan that includes a basement. Adjacent to
the large kitchen is an eating area. Incorporated in the floor plan
is an interior spa area. Details include arched tile areas and unique
fireplace and window seat. This home is a one-of-a-kind model and leads
to a feeling of spaciousness and peace.
Badgley
Home - Calle Regalo
The Badgley home,
Model 182, contains a courtyard entry with a beautiful fountain. Inside,
a former porch has been modified to a sitting area and an extra room
with a separate entrance has been added as a hobby room. This home features
beautiful choices in color and decor and the patio features unique plantings
and landscaping ideas including various raised beds.
